The A Frame and Ruapehu Huts

Alpine Sports Club Inc. Skiing and Facilities at Mt Ruapehu
Alpine Sports Club has two ski lodges on Mt Ruapehu. The club first constructed the smaller Ruapehu Hut on a prominent ridge overlooking the Top of the Bruce in 1950 with extensions added in 1956, 1962 and 1976. The original hut slept 12 people in a single room. The modern hut sleeps 20 and has full modern facilities including hot showers and electric heating. The Ruapehu Hut is used to accommodate the club's Mountain craft courses and to accommodate the additional demand during organised club activity weekends including ski instruction, mountain craft instruction, sports weekends and social activities.
The Ruapehu Hut may be rented for weekend and mid week to schools and approved groups for ski and mountain craft activities.
In 1964, Alpine Sports Club built the A Frame Lodge 50 metres further up the ridge from the Ruapehu Hut. Much larger and with modern facilities the A Frame Lodge has been the mainstay of Alpine Sports Clubs Ski activities on the mountain. The A Frame Lodge was extensively upgraded in 1996 to provide improved bunk rooms and an improved dining and social facility. Both lodges comply with all accommodation and safety regulations applying to the mountain.
The A Frame Lodge is available to club members and their guests for normal ski activities and organised club weekends. The A Frame Lodge is also an excellent base for tramping and climbing in the Tongariro National Park outside of the ski season and during the summer holidays.
Accommodation at the huts is available through an internet booking system (see the link further down the page). There is a late booking and cancellation system available to members during specified times. Food is provided for breakfast and dinner and members must bring their own fresh bread and some specified vegetables. Hut duties are rostered, including the cooking. Mattresses, pillows and some duvets are provided but guests are required to bring their own sleeping bag and pillow case
