February 2010 Skills Evening - Rock Climbing, Mt Eden Quarry (Short side)

The February Skills Evening will be outdoors at the Mt Eden Quarry (short side), off Normanby Road, from about 6.00pm. For those that are not sure the location is behind the playing fields. Grades are typically 13 to 15 with some harder climbs (probably equates to 15 to 18 indoor). I will have several ropes and other gear (a $3 charge/person for rope hire will be made) include trad gear for lead climbing. Bring any gear you have. The area is suitable for top roping or lead climbing - 30+ climbs available.

Afterwards we will retire to the Cadrona Speights Ale House for food and a beer and discussion of regular climbing outings over the remainder of the summer. Potential trips include day trips to South Wharepapa or Ti Point plus possible weekend trips to South Wharepapa and Ruapehu area.

Ring or text me on 021 859 829 if you require further information (or email via the link below or b.duffy@xtra.co.nz).

Mountain Bike Orienteering

This is a growing sport in NZ with events becomming more regular. Most events are run in conjunction with a foot race orienteering or rogaine format event using the same forest venue, maps and organising teams. There is a NZ championship and a regular Australia NZ challenge.

The joy of MTBO is that it adds a competitive element, takes you to places you would not normally get access to and it is a friendly community of good people.

For more information go to the Auckland Orienteering Website or look up MTBO, Mountain Bike Orienteering, on Google.
