and taking a look at botanically interesting features of this area.(going only as far as Dacre Cottage).

Enjoy a week of skiing with other club members or participate in the RAL Ladies week or Mens Ski week.

The RAL ski weeks are very popular and will improve your ski ability considerably,

 meet up a Lorenz’s Café at the end of the day for some ‘bubbly’ and a midweek dinner at the Chateau

Meet at 10am at the end of Prices Rd., which is off Puhinui Rd on the other side of the SW Motorway.

Sunday 15 August Scandrett Regional Park – LEADER REQUIRED

Located at the south eastern edge of Kawau Bay, Scandrett Regional Park encompasses Mullet Point

 and includes regenerating coastal forest, rocky headlands, an attractive beach and a historic farm precinct.

From the cliff tops at the end of Mullet Point there are outstanding views in all directions including views of Kawau Island,

 the numerous smaller islands in Kawau Bay and the Hauraki Gulf. Two – three hours of easy walking tracks are ideally suited to a winter’s day out.

   

Weekend 21- 22 August Applying Snowskills - Tongariro National Park

Drive to National Park Friday night, stay in backpacker accom.

Begin at Mangatepopo, ascend Mt Ngauruhoe and stay overnight at Oturere Hut.

Return via Red Crater, Mt Tongariro and Mangetepopo. Basic snowskills and good fitness required – ice axe and crampons essential.

Rope/Belay Course - weekend 20/22 August An Introductory Course for climbers or persons seeking to visit the glaciers.

Persons must have completed the Introductory Mountaincraft Course to qualify for attendance. One theory session.

Begin at Whatipu to climb the Gibbons Track for wonderful ocean and harbour views to Pararaha Valley.

Sunday 19 September Mataitai Forest, Ness Valley Road, Clevedon.

Anticlockwise around the Orange Ring Track. We will car pool in Auckland and meet in the carpark in Ness Valley Road for a 9.30 am start.

The walk is about 5 hours and is slippery underfoot. Petrol contribution is $12.00

Sunday 31 October Karangahake Windows Walk

Everyone welcome, suitable families and teenagers.

Follow Windows Walk and Crown Track beside the Waitewheta River, return on Dubbo 96 track. Approx 4 hours.

Tunnels, bridges. Bring torch and lunch. Option for families with younger children (or others not wanting to do whole walk)

 to just do shorter Windows Walk and have time to play or picnic by the river.

Option to stay weekend at Bowentown Holiday park. Variety of accommodation options including campsites and cabins.

Saturday - short walks from campsite around Bowentown Domain and to nearby beaches.

5-7 November Manawahe Kokako Reserve, Bay of Plenty.

Travel to backbacker/cabin accommodation Friday evening, possibly the Awakeri Hot Springs.

Early start Saturday to drive to the Reserve in either Manawahe Road or Mc Ivor Road to hear the dawn chorus at the reserve,

 then a Guided Walk to the features of the reserve, including the large rata and a waterfall

and, weather-permitting, expansive views over the Rangitaiki and Tarawera river plains from the high viewpoint.

The walk will take about 4-5 hours. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a new reserve being developed by dedicated and enthusiastic local volunteers.

The Trust have asked for a $10.00 donation from each participant which will go towards their project.

Sunday: Tarawera Falls. ( Access permitting.) From Kawerau it is a 23 km drive to the carpark,

 then half an hour's walk to main falls and a further half hour to the loop track up on the escarpment,

 where the river disappears underground.

Southern Alps Trip, November 2010

A week long trip to the Tasman Glacier or Centennial Hut area on Franz Josef glacier.

High level of fitness required, plus completion of basic Mountaincraft and Rope/Belay courses is a pre-requisite.

Climbing grades 1 and 2 expected. Travel via Christchurch, helicopter access to and from the glacier.

Adams Wilderness Area, December 2010/january 2011

A two week trip over New year. Self sufficient expedition style trip. No huts.

Access is difficult but helicopter access to and from the edge of the wilderness are is likely.

High level of fitness required, plus completion of basic Mountaincraft and Rope/Belay courses is a minimum pre-requisite

but previous glacier experience preferred. Details still being developed.

Costs excluding airfares approximately $1,100 - $1,200.

Five Passes, Humboldt Mountains (Routeburn/Olivine Area), March 2011

A week long journey through some of the lesser travelled areas of Humboldt Mountains between the Routeburn Track and Dart River.

High level of fitness required. No huts. Travel via Queenstown. Details still being developed. Some trip information available.
